2 years ago i lost my tomatoes to blight. I then unwittingly threw the infected plants into one of my compost bins, not realising that the spores live on. I have half a bin of lovely compost but don't know if i can use the stuff in my borders. It would be sad if i had to throw it away but then on the other hand i don't want to risk infecting other plants. I don't grow tomatoes in the border. Help with advise please.

Thank you moon grower,it's great to know that the compost does not have to be thrown away. It's such valuable stuff. Last year i had to ask my husband to help me empty the compost bins and he fell in love with it it too. I have 4 compost bins and still run short of space the garden and kitchen waste.Once i get this bin emptied i will wash it out to get rid of any existing spores then start a fresh collection.

If you are putting on a flower border it should not be a problem. I'd avoid putting on a veggie bed as the spores can live for years. Thus you could have a problem with potatoes down the line.
