I personally like the rowan tree as it is a small tree that can be pollarded too.
But as Spritz says we could do with more info.

I think we need to know what you mean by a 'small' garden, Guest. If it's a tiny courtyard type of garden - then no tree is suitable, as the roots would damage your property's foundations/drains.
