why is my cordaline going brown and the ends are feathered.

Hold fire mine looked dead last year and then sprung into life in June.

Feathered ends is quite common, specially after winter. If all the leaves are brown and dead, then the plant's in trouble after this last winter. If there is new growth at the top, then just remove dead leaves.
