is it possible to split a Pieris (Forest Flame) ? Only there are two healthy bushes in the front garden and I'd like to split one for a pot to go in the back garden....

Pieris is a woody shrub and will not take kindly to being split. I would suggest propagation by layering. Best if you can look up the exact technique in a book but the basics of it are as follows: Pull a fairly young stem down to the ground and mound soil over it (use a metal tent peg or similar to hold it down), leaving the growing tip showing above ground. It may also help to put a small nick in the part of the stem that will be buried and apply some rooting compound to it. Leave it for several months and it should grow new roots from the part you buried, once it has a good root system you can detatch it from the parent plant - one new plant, if all goes well.

Previous question
No - it's a shrub with a central woody stem, not a herbaceous perennial.
