can a cutting of the bleeding heart bush be put straight into the ground or does it need to take root in water first.

i just split mine and replant them, but then its takes a few years to get large again ,as they can get really big if u dont touch them .

If you 'bleeding heart' you mean a dicentra then it is a herbaceous perennial not a shrub. I'm not sure it will grow from cuttings at all but you should be able to split the plant later in the year.
