You can give it a bash now if you want, but this is one of those plants that's usually propagated from semi ripe cuttings with a heel in mid summer, around June, and dipped in rooting hormone powder, potted into a sandy mix and kept in a propagator with bottom heat of 16deg. C, - you could try a cold frame, particularly if the weather is hot - till it roots. Some lilacs are grafted plants though, which means the cuttings you take may not be as vigorous as the plant you got it from because it won't have a grafted rootstock. I wouldn't let that stop you trying though.

Frankly, Great, I wouldn't give a lilac houseroom - the sucker growth is unbelievable, spreads everywhere.

Thats propably why its grown under next doors fence!. Thought it was a great butterfly plant havent seen any butterflies on it! After what you've said don't think I'll bother then. I'll just admire it from a far, mind you its not that far from me. How do I control it if its starts to grow in my garden?

Dig it out, hack it back, napalm, whatever it takes, don't let it advance any further.

Hmm, well you wouldn't say that Cristina, if you'd been called out to a garden with lilac suckers all through the lawn and over to the other side...

Great, its just occurred to me that your thinking lilac was loved by butterflies is understandable really - the flowers are not dissimilar to Buddleia davidii, though it flowers in July, which the butterflies do love.
