Is there any climbing plant that will grow in very little soil and will grow up a fence to cover it? Thinking off outside my kitchen door. The fence is so bare and ugly. Please not jasmine. We in this house can't stand the smell of it- and dont anyone say sit down!! lol

Hedera Sagittifolia would be good, this is a pointed leafed Ivy... Unless you are looking for something with flowers.

I did ask that one Bamboo... How much sun does it get Great obviously none in the morning but and hour two hours in the afternoon?

more like 3/4 hours of sun in afternoon.Want to put the plant at the side of compost bin to hide it a bit, depth of soil is okay, but theres a lot planted near to the bin. So want something kinda bare at the bottom and something that fills out at the top. Could put a plant pot there I suppose, but trying to get away from pots!!

Passiflora (passion flower) might grow okay there. Needs a support though, like most climbers.

If you can give it a cool root run you could try a clematis but, again it will need something to twine to.

Thats okay have some trellis to put on the fence some how

Clematis are not happy trying to twine to a trellis - think how peas attach themselves and, even those the clematis uses a leaf tendril to cling to the support, they need wires or netting.

You can buy clematis mesh, comes in a roll or by the metre in garden centres - that'd do for both Passiflora or Clematis.

For a quick fix why not try Morning Glory? In the meantime you could plant a clematis but they need a good feed and lots of water. Our neighbour got a fantastic show of Morning glory on a fence that got the sun from about 12 midday to sunset, but you don't seem to have that. Many climbers get rampant over time. Like Canary Ivy, Montana; Passiflora goes silly too after a while. We had Canary Ivy Growing in visibly nil soil where we lived before. It covered up an extremely ugly fence in no time.

Forgot about morning glory, used to have that in the garden, i like the blue ones best. Thanks Dorjac for jogging my memory. Needs a lot of jogging these days lol
