For many years we have planted the North facing window boxes of our terraced houses with red geraniums, can the panel suggest something else colourful - we do live on a busy main road so will have to tolerate fumes.

As it faces North, I'd guess it doesn't get too much sun on the windowsill - if that's the case, try upright fuchsias with busy lizzies and some trailing lobelia - these all tolerate shade really well and flower profusely.

I'd stick with your pelargoniums if they are working, you can also get pink and white ones. Petunias should also work okay and come in nice bright colours.
