I have a long leaf magnolia and the buds have just pushed thru, does anyone know the botanical name or even have a picture so that i can really identify the plant. Sorry i am no techno wizard so not able to put photo on myself yet. Thankyou. lozi.

or google images of magnolia and see if you can spot it that way. Magnolia is the latin name for a large group of shrubs and trees.

Lozi, are you thinking of the Big-Leaf Magnolia (Magnolia macrophylla)?

From a PM Lozi sent me, sounds like Magnolia grandiflora

I'm not even going to attempt to identify your magnolia without a photograph, sorry, though it's possible to have a stab at it with more information. Is it evergreen? What do you mean by "long leaf"? How large is the plant? What colour and shape are the flowers? There may well be magnolia pictures under M at the bottom of the page - have a look and see.
