I have just moved house and inherited a purple sprouting brocolli plant that is ready to harvest. Do these plants last more than one year or will I need to plant new ones once this particular harves is finished?

Unfortunately, they only last one year. Keep picking and also start some more off as seeds. You could also let the plant set seed on its last few sprouts and have your own seed for next year. Although it may not be exactly the same plant, depending on the original variety, which you don't know.
