my tomato plants have sot flowers on them already this year but they are only 4 inches tall and it is may!! should I take the flowers off?

no i wouldnt , i have a couple on mine.Have you got them in a greenhouse?
If so it wouldnt hurt to plant them straight in the ground in the greenhouse.
Mind you saying that have you had any frost etc in merseyside?
If not it wont be long before you can plant them outside
