Does anyone know how much water an old tin bath holds? I found this website about making garden ponds. It says for a container which holds 50litres / 12 gallons you need 8 plants. 4 marginals/ 1 dwarf lily, 2 floating and 1 oxygenator! think it holds more then that but my old tin bath has a small surface area.

There are various pond websites with calculators on to find your volume. You just put in your measurements, well your ponds that is lol.

Well do it the other way round and measure it as you empty it - unless you are saving the water for something - water the garden with it!

Pauline - ask Noseypotter, I'm sure he knows how to do this. Obviously the volume is depth x width x length and you can convert that to gallons.....I dont know the conversion but I'm sure NP does...

You could measure the volume yourself by filling it with bucketfuls of water. Use a bucket that holds a known quantity (say, 2 gallons = a not particularly big bucket) and count how many bucketfuls it takes to fill it to the level you'll want. If you want to be really accurate you could measure the volume of the bucket by counting how many milk bottles full of water it takes to fill it to the level that you'll use when filling the bath .... :-)
