I spotted this extremely dramatic shrub in Norwich this May. Can you identify it.
It is grown as a standard and is staked, absolutely covered in yellow rose like (but smaller) flowers.

i can see what you mean Bamboo but that may just be the photo--- i'm looking at my 'canary bird' right now and its habit looks the same

Rosa primula looks exactly like the photograph above, Pamg - Canary Bird and this are very similar in habit. Have posted a photograph (from books) for you to examine in my photo section, Rayat - the one on the left is Rosa primula, the smaller one to the right is Rosa Canary Bird. Not able to post it under your question, I'm afraid. I'd like to know whereabouts in Norwich you saw it.

Sid - Norwich City Football Club are nicknamed 'The Canaries'. If it was in a public area or anything its the sort of thing local councils do.

Weird how its come out apricoty though, in the pic in the book its distinctly palest yellow! Must be my scanner, I guess.

it could well be a rose. the leaf looks right for one. there are many rose types.
