Hi there. We live in North Somerset near Bristol.
We have a huge pampas grass in our garden which our cats love to shelter under and also run around and chase each other, its lovely to watch.

This year it isnt very green and has a lot of dead yellow strands. When is the best time to take it right back to its roots and let it regrow ready for next year.Summer or Winter after the fluffy bits at the top have finished.

Hope somebody can help.

Usual procedure is to be really tough with it in March or early April, when you hack back all the growth to the centre, remove spent flower stems at their base, and rake out the centre of the bush to clear debris and rubbish.

My neighbor also pours one can of beer in 8 liters of water over the stumps to speed the decay of all the rubbish that he couldn't get out.
