Yes u can plant them, you could have planted them as early as early april, i planted some 3 days ago and they r starting to sprout already, be sure not to over water though as we still have rain due.

The only problem will be that garlic needs a period of cold to 'split' into the multiple clove-type bulb. so by planting now you may only get one big clove from each clove that you plant. Autumn is the best time to plant, in future. But you'll have to move your birthday!!

Yes it might do. If the garlic was bought from the supermarket it might not be as good as garden centre stuff cos it might be a variety that prefers to grow in a hot country. Cloves that you buy for growing are varieties that are suited to UK summers (?).
