pampas grass. this is a picture of my pampas grass, it was bought and planted last summer. unfortunately the dog has run into it playing and snapped off both plumes. does it need any special attention or will it righten its self?

yeah I know, I'm planning on moving it to a bigger part of my boarder. so its not a problem that the plumes have gone then?

Not at all - lots of people remove them well before Christmas to prevent seed forming, but it's better to leave them in place - the birds use the plume material to line their nests with in early spring.

when you move it in spring if you can burn it down as it does it the world of good .

Check your bye laws if you want to torch it though - we're not allowed to do that here in the South and I'm pretty sure in most built up areas it's not allowed.

Flowering time is from September onwards - some don't flower till mid October.

Last year's plumes are usually removed in early spring anyway, together with hacking back the leaves to the centre, and raking out the middle to clear any debris. I feel I should warn you that pretty soon, your pampas grass will be pushing the fence over and hanging 3 feet over your lawn....
