Bought an Acer "Atropurpureum" (Red) last year, planted in a pot, thriving well this year until yesterday, suddenly one of the two main stems containing red leaves has died off - what is the problem and should I cut the whole stem down to the root?
On plant

If it was two separate trees in the same pot Triciaphil, one of the trees may have out-competed the other, especially if the smaller one is the one that died.
