Thanks Kasy! my first thought too! but very early if it is. Those shoots have been visible all winter and Hostas usually completely disappear here. Time will tell.

Agree with Hosta - those hairy bits are the give away. It has been very mild this year and Hosta can sit like that all winter in mild years. They will appreciate the exposed roots being covered in compost.
