When planting potato tubers...... instead of periodically mounding up to avoid green potatoes.....would planting through weed fabric be a suitable lower maintenance method

I've heard of growing them on the surface under black polythene but not seen it mentioned lately so it probably didn't work very well. It might would make a good slug trap!In fact, just remembered I tried it once, not very successfully.
Membrane might be different so why not try one row as an experiment?
Many farmers growing early Pembrokeshires round here grow under clear polythene so its hard to see how they would mound up under that. The fields look rather like lakes from a distance!

Do you mean you used grass cuttings instead of earthing up at all Snoop? Didn't you have to dig through a slimy mess when you dug the potatoes up?

Still you could dig it in - any to come and glad of it.

Earthing up allows bigger crops if you side dress with a potato fertilser each time you earth up,another advantage if blight strikes the spores that are washed off by rain run away from the potatoes.
