what compost should be used to put chrysanthemum cuttings in - is john innes ok ?

I recently succeeded with some chrysanthemum cuttings (and if I can, believe me anyone can) - I only had John Innes 2 and it was really thick stuff so I added about half sand - fine as long as it doesnt have salt in. I think the key is to stick a see through bag over the top so that they dont lose too much water (oh and keep an eye out for aphids - I brushed mine off with a paintbrush)
