Can anyone suggest a nice hedge to plant. I want it to cover a fence next a busy road about 5ft tall with low maintenance and green all year

If there is a pavement between your fence and the road then you might try Cononeaster. It makes a nice hedge but road salt will kill it. We tried twice with hedges directly against the road before we realised the problem.

they used to use privette as it was very hary to the traffic and dence so even cut the noise down a little.
