Fuchsia Hawkshead. I bought this lovely fuchsia last autumn and planted it in my garden. With it came planting instructions but no pruning instructions. It looks a bit sad with the leaves curled inwards and shrunk. When should I Prune? I would like to cut back to base to encourage fresh growth. Hope photo's help. Thanks.

Thanks Gg. I may take this opportunity to find a better position for it as will grow into a large bush-would moving a plant now do it any damage?

best time to move just as its starting into growth so now is ideal, it wont even notice , just give a good watering in to settle the soil around the roots , a feed with tomato food in May June July will help it to flower more as well .

It can grow to at least five feet high and wide given time so best to move it as you say.

Hi,
Looks about normal for this time of year, I would not hard prune it as it being such a young plant as hawks head grows into quite a large bush and when more established and has the energy can be hard pruned.
Its classed as a group 6 when it comes to pruning , a light pruning all over just taking the shoots back about a 1 inch/ 2.54 cm , you were lucky we had a mild winter I would suggest next autumn to use a bark mulch around the base of the plant to protect the roots and if the top part gets killed it should regrow from the base.
Hope this helps
