My daughter bought me an Amaryllis for christmas, potted it up as per instructions (although I have had them before) but all that's appeared are leaves! I've never had one not flower before is it any good keeping it? I thought of putting it outside in summer?

Hi, it could be that you have a Hippeastrum, rather than Amaryllis, there seems to be a lot of confusion over the 2 seperate plants, even garden centres sell Hippeastrum as Amaryllis, so it doesn't help the confusion.
Amaryllis, common name belladonna lily, is a genus of 1 species, the bulbs should be planted just below the surface of the soil or compost, and are autumn flowering.
Hippeastrum, a genus of about 80 species, should be planted with the neck and shoulders o the bulb above the compost, flowering mainly from winter to spring, in both these plants the leaves usually appear either with , or just after the flowers, but Amaryllis resent root disturbance, so this could be the cause of it not flowering, I would treat it as usual, and hope that it's settled down by next year, Derek.

Hi, sorry, I'm getting confused now, lol, it's Hippeastrum that don't like root disturbance, Derek.

I'll hang on to it maybe feed it now in the holes of a flower later on? Thanks Derek I got the gist!

Feed it for a while but let it dry off in summer and allow the leaves to dry and fall off. Start it into growth again late autumn. If you do put it outside turn the pot on its side when its time to dry it off or the rain will keep it growing.

I would keep it, myself. With good treatment, it should flower--unless it was an unusually small bulb! I hope that one of the others sees this question, though. Apparently what I do here in Arizona is all wrong for the UK! :)
