I planted an aster amellus rudolf Goethe last year in a pot last year and didn't keep up with the weeding. When I came to it this year it had something strange growing over the soil near the base. It was bright green flat and quite hard with little circles on it and about 2 square inch. I presumed it was Moss so threw it out but I wondered what it was. I wish I had taken a photo any ideas? And will it be s problem to my plant or any others. Thanks

Hi, welcome to GoY, I agree with Mg, it was probably liverwort, it tends to grow on plants that are growing in damp conditions, but is harmless, just scrape or rub it off, Derek.

From the description it is a liverwort. In evolutionary terms a primitive plant.

Could have been liverwort… try Googling and see if it looks the same. Not a problem so long as you keep weeding it out.
