JUST GOT A GARDEN! It's a strip of land around the edge of a car park (not the most romantic place at the moment) but and turning it into a communal garden - has anyone had any experience with communal gardens? Please see my 3 photos!

Hi Jennyray, That looks like a large space to make into a garden, but can really be turned into something special. It would be a big project and quite expensive for you alone.Try to enlist the help of other tenants/owners into helping you. It's amazing the community spirit that comes through when everyone is a part of a project like this and the pride and sense of achievement that comes with it. When it's done, think of the lovely summer evenings everyone can share together with a glass of wine/beer, and admiring what you all have achieved. Good Luck, keep us updated on your progress.

You could try asking your local council if they could give you a grant. Due to the present austerity they might not, but a lot of local councils set aside money specifically for projects like this, mine does. It's worth a try, especially if it will benefit a lot of the community.
You could also try some of the local businesses. They might chip in a few quid and places like garden centres and builders merchants after all, it's good publicity for them.

Wow, that's an exciting project, and with a lovely long wall at the back too, just asking for some good wall shrubs. You might send a press release to your local paper asking for helpers? You have a nice framework of mature bushes and trees too, to start you off - even if you want to replace them eventually they will add a lot to the look of things until other plantings get established. Very best of luck with it, and keep us posted!
