The pee in the compost question.
I well remember this discussion from some 4 years ago, and recently advised a new gardener on the subject. But practice can this be overdone ?
Like me he has a 3 x 3 x 3 bin fairly full, but every day he is putting 3 litres in. Is this not too much and is there a "right" amount ?

Many thanks B, i've just informed him of his error. I guess he was a bit too enthusiastic.

I think every day is too much as well, frankly - I used to use it probably once a week, or for a few days if the heap was smelly, and usually only spring/summer.

is he diabetic? 3l from one person is rather a lot.
When the kids were little one 'potty full' a week was all I added.
Now I find I fall off the top of the bin ! :o) [joking honest!]

At least you give the neighbours a laugh, Seaburngirl.

I've passed your comments on, thanks but I myself now wonder how can this small amount can penetrate and thus benefit a heap 3 ft deep ?

its the microbes in the bin that break the urine down that are the important aspects of adding nitrogen rich compounds. urine is nitrogen rich.

If you think about how little Garotta or compost activator you use, then urine is similar - as Seaburngirl says, its supplying nitrogen for microbes to do their stuff.

Thanks again for your help. I'm convinced and so is my friend.

3 Litres! Dear lord, is he collecting from the neighbourhood, lol! Yea, too much I'd say, just the morning one from one person should do the trick.
