Depends how dark it is otherwise - no sun isn't impossible, but under the shade of dense conifers which reach over would be, for instance. Hedera varieties, Mahonia aquifolium, Ruscus, Sarcococca varieties, Hypericum calycinum and Vinca (though I wouldn't recommend these last two, personally), Lamiums, Lysimachia, Convallaria
