We have a huge loquat tree in SW France. It is always covered with flowers during winter and bees and butterflies flock to it, but every year the flowers die off and it never fruits?

Answers

Two possible causes - the temperature drops below 20 to 25 deg. F when the flowers are present, or the tree is not self fertile and needs another loquat nearby.

Thank you, I suspect it is the latter! I've just bought a young one in Uk, now have just got to get it down there! Is it possible to send trees by post to Europe?

Fruit trees can be shipped direct from nurseries to Western Europe, provided they have EU certification. Not sure about one you've bought yourself. Also, loquat has male and female varieties, plus some hermaphrodite ones - not sure what you've bought.

Not sure either! Was from Burncoose nurseries, about 3ft tall in a pot!

I'd contact Burncoose and ask about the gender of your plant, and about the EU certification, see if they can help.

How do I say thanks?
