My late neighbour has had a beautiful, if wild, Tamarix Tetrandra tree/bush in her garden for as long as I can remember. Sadly she is no longer with us and the new people moving into the house are going to get rid of the tree. My question is: Can I ( a novice) take a cutting of this lovely tree and if so, how and when. Also, can it be grown in a large plant pot? Thanks in anticipation. John.

Tamarisk is easy to take cuttings from and I actually find rooting them in water is easy. I would take a cutting in June/July with a view of them rooting by September.
They can be grown in pots.
How big is the neighbours shrub? They respond well to pruning. If the new owners allow, then prune it to a manageable size then take out as much root as possible and you should have a decent tree next year plus.
