Depends on how 'too big' means. Until 2 years ago I could prune off unwanted growth with an extending pruner. Now branches have thickened up it will need to be a tree surgeon. Ours is an upright form and is very tall now. If you can reach, just take off the bits that are of concern to you. The tree won't mind.
