When can I best plant out a potted Magnolia stellata and will it thrive in my very limy soil?

If its in a pot you can plant it out at any time providing the ground isn't frozen. stellata is more tolerant of lime than some but dig in plenty of compost and give a feed of ericaceous feed designed for azaleas etc twice a year. A neighbour has a 10ft specimen that he gives Epsom salts to every 2 months in the growing season and we are on shallow soil over chalk bedrock.
