Nicotiana sylvestris, can I plant this in a north facing border? The shade comes from a fence, nothing else, not overhung.

Its common name is the Woodland Tobacco. Seen them in considerable shade doing ok round here.

Great, thanks all, it's always better to get 'real' peoples experience most of the info on Google says full sun or part shade etc and I never know quite what semi/part/partial shade etc means. I thought they looked like the sort of plant that would like shade:-)))

I believe you can as my neighbour (who is a fantastic gardener) has done exactly this but I am quite inexperienced so perhaps someone else can confirm.
