Why have my bluebells turned white in one area of my garden?

Answers

are they English Bluebells ? or the Spanish variety I think the later as you do get white also pink , did you plant them ?

When the flowers are fully formed, the stalk of English Bluebells curves downwards to give its characteristic look. One way to help identify an English Bluebell is to see if all the flowers are in the same side of the stalk.

The stalk of Spanish Bluebells is straight. One way to help identify an Spanish Bluebell is to see if the flowers are all around the stalk. As all the flowers on an Spanish Bluebell are on the same side of the stalk and the stalk is thicker than the English Bluebell, the effect of gravity does not operate in the same way on the Spanish Bluebell so that it keeps its characteristic straight stalk.

there is a gene mutation that means the flowers develop white in the English form too, though this is much less common than in the Spanish ones and any of their hybrids.

Hiya I thought maybe I had white bluebells too but am not 100% sure. Can you see the photo of them on my profile, do they look the same as yours?

Hi Dneicy I've looked but they are non too clear. if the leaves smell garlicky then they are ransoms and in the photo the one on the furthest left looks like it might be the others towards the middle may well be white Spanish bluebells.

can you post a photo of a closer up picture.?

Hi seaburngirl, do not notice a smell from the flowers or leaves. I've posted a close up. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I've had a look at them and they have flowers all around the stem. Its only happened in certain areas of the garden not dotted around .I wondered if it was the soil condition because other blue plants ie. crocus have turned yellow when they were blue to begin with. I got the bulbs given many years ago and they gradually seem to be reverting to white bells. Each year I have more.
