Is it fruit?? We have been here about six years now and have a meadow at the back with hawthorn and fruit trees which have all been planted miles too close to the hedge! In amongst the hawthorn is a plant which I thought was a broken pear tree, possibly one which had reverted to the wild state. This year it has the flowers shown, when in bud blush pink and looking like wild rose buds, opening to the star shaped flower. The stems have a reddish tint to the new growth. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks Owdboggy, I shall have to keep an eye on it and see what happens this year. I can't remember it flowering previous years, it just got left as it filled a gap! I didn't realise that pears were grafted onto Quince root stocks, so we learn something new every day.

The flower is more like a Quince than a pear flower. Some Pears are grafted onto Quince root stocks so as you say, it could be that your root stock has over taken the grafted on pear.
