Can I move hostas into pots as no matter how vigilant I am snails and slugs just feast on them every year?

I have two hostas in pots and until I sprayed them this year with slug clear they were eaten to ribbons by snails. This year they are untouched.

I grow hostas in pots. Every year I tip them out, chop through them with a spade to divide it into quarters and either pot them on or give them away.
I've never really had a problem with snails or slugs. Maybe it's where they're situated, or perhaps I've just been lucky?

Infuriating, isn't it?
I grow all my hostas in pots, for that very reason. I find they do well, and I pot them on every few years as they grow. Even then, I place them carefully to try and outwit the slugs and snails. I think you will find it is well worthwhile.
