Hi
I bought Aquilegia Kew seed collection - sweet rainbows last year and was really pleased that all seeds grew and flourished. This year all plants produced lovely flowers
However i am so disappointed that all the flowers on all the plants have their heads facing downwards so unless you actually lift the head you dont get to see the beautiful structure and colours is this typical of columbines?
I have grown aquilegia many times in the past and never had this problem?
many thanks
marion

I think maybe the Nora Barlow types are more outward facing than the long-spurred types. I've only really grown the LS types and yes they face down, apart from when they're ready to deadhead.

Many thanks for your responses
I think I might move them to a higher position or bend down more :))

most of mine hang down, some varieties have been bred for outward facing flowers.
so in a nutshell this is normal for them.
