I have been given a bag of 40 mixed tulip bulbs - friends were visiting Amsterdam. Shall I just store them in a cool, dark place till autumn or might they dry out?

I'm sure they will be fine, stored as you suggested..just check them over to see if any look damaged or have gone soft ,beforehand..if so,discard them ,and plant out around November..they are usually planted later than Daffs ,etc..I usually put some sharp sand or grit in the bottom of the planting hole, which helps with drainage in wet weather..

Specie tulips are used to getting a baking in the wild, so drying out is not a problem.
