We have a large lagoon on site a work. I was informed that they are starting the process of cleaning it on fri 06.06.14. I am worried about this as we have breading malards, moorhens and for the first time ever coots. I dont want any of them distrubed.
Can you please advise what harm people in waders cleaing out the lagoon can to the the wildlife at this time of year.
Thank you

Hi Ruth and welcome to GoY. I'd contact the RSPB and ask their advice on how to stop this happening right now… By end of month there shouldn't be such a problem.

RSPB? Let me take a guess. Could that mean, taking into account the UK, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds? I could think of two possibilities for P- protection or propagation and I chose protection.

Yup that's it Loosestrife Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Though they actually protect all wildlife these days.

I'm not sure about your lagoon but cerainly farmers are prohibited from cutting hedges until after the breeding season, could you not leave the clearing until later in the year?
, its the insect life too such as the damsel fly or dragon fly larva that are on the plants, there are so many different wildlife using the pond that disturbing their habitats could do untold harm
