i have an ornamental pussy willow in a pot and the leaves are being stripped and there is an orange deposit on the undersides of remaining leaves ????

Do you mean Salix caprea? If so, they are very prone to rust, which will account for the orange deposit.
As for what's eating them, according to the RHS aphids, caterpillars, leaf beatles and sawflies could be the cause.
