I have a large Acer which is about 20 years old, this Spring it has a lot of "seed pods" which are dropping all the time, these are a bit like the "spinners" produced by the Sycamore Tree. Is this normal, as we have not noticed as many as there are this year ?

Yup perfectly normal, flowers are tiny so you can easily miss them.

We noticed many more flowers, and now seeds, than usual this year. Probably due to the very mild winter.

Thank you everyone for your response to my question. Glad its nothing to worry about. I have also found it has Horse chestnut scale and was wondered if this was anything to do with the extra seeds. Thanks again.

The seeds and the scale are nothing to do with each other. Treat the scale as you normally would.
