I purchased some border plants, sea holly, iris, phlox etc
which were in dormant state in bags. They were out if date and heavily discounted. I have planted them in pots in my green house although it states to plant by April, will they grow and how should I look after them. I'm planning a border for next year and thought they might fit in there.
Thanks
John

If they are border plants they really need to be outdoors rather than in your greenhouse. As to whether they will grow as Loosestrife says you'll simply have to wait and see.

Thanks for your replies, I realise it was a rather stupid question, but wondered if anyone else had experience of trying this, brand new gardener btw!

It is amazing what plants can survive!

My experience has been, even when you buy those bagged plants fresh they are unable to survive.
By now they'll be dessicated so if they do sprout (fingers crossed) they'll need extra tlc on the watering front.
None of them would be expected to flower this year, but keep them cool and moist and tell them you love them!

Don't give up yet. I bought an end of season lot and they all looked quite dead. Some didn't survive but it was worth it for the fabulous incarvillea that did! Just keep them watered outside and keep your fingers crossed.Don't hold your breath though, if they've been bagged up since April.

Will they grow? Wait for the plants answer to you.
