I have 2 large clumps of Acanthus (Bears britches) which I want to move to a position where they will bully all the weeds into submission. When/how is the best time to do this? Also would they be toxic to grazing animals in the field just over the fence where I would like to put them?

Not toxic but very spiky so animals are unlikely to graze on them.

You will also find they grow back in the original position, as it regenerates from the smallest piece of root.

I'd move in autumn when the foliage has died back. Not aware of the plant being toxic.
