Mystery: I'm in Alabama (gooseberries unknown to the State. I planted some plants and they produce berries. However, something is eating the berries right before we pick them and we don't know what is getting them. The leaves are not effected...just the berries. Any idea what my problem?

Some little creature obviously likes gooseberries. Could it be racoons?

If you can't see any evidence from looking at the fruits, nor anything lurking within the bush, under leaves, etc., nor catch any creature eating them during the day, take a torch and go out after dark. You may then find the culprit....

Birds ate ours a couple of years ago - never happened before. I netted them last year - makes picking difficult but at least there are some left to pick!
