What is the method of training pyrocantha called when the limbs are placed perpindicular to the trunk?

I've had a go at this and the plant lends itself to being trained in this way. The only issue I found was making sure I was vigilant in tying in the stems. Leave the too long and those thorns make it awkward to do.

Espalier, usually done with fruit trees but I guess you could d with pyracantha.
