It looks like an Echium of some sort Sarah, Roy.

Echium pinnata was my other suggestion but a total memory blank prevented me from posting !!!!! doh.

I reckon Echium too. I hope you have better luck with it than I do as the snow or wet in winter always finishes them off. If it survives the winter it will flower next year. They seem to grow very well near the coast.

Hi Feverfew & Sarah there's an article this month in Gardeners World by Alan Titchmarsh about Echiums, he grows them on the 1st summer outside then in the winter he pots them up and puts them in a frost free greenhouse and then puts them out the following summer to flower, hope this helps Roy.

Echium and Yucca gloriosa variegata. Echium are great if you can get them to survive winter.

Looks like it might be Campanula 'Pritchard's Variety'. It self sows everywhere in my garden.
