Not really a good idea to lift them unless you can get them back in the ground by August - they start to put out new roots then, much earlier than other spring bulbs. If I needed to move them from an area for a while, I'd pot them up in compost.

Agree with above. You could keep them in dry compost until August time or in a paper bag in the fridge to keep them cool and dark.
