I have a pink Hydrangea Bush in my front garden, the last couple of years I have hardly had any bloom on it.The flower I have had has been opening late August. Can anyone tell me the reason for this? Could it be because I am cutting it down to low at the beginning of October, also all the leaves drop off.

is the plant in shade? if so it would only grow more leaves.

Although three hours sun per day is better most would be OK in shade as long as there is plenty of direct light though.

If your hydrangea is a macrophylla variety, these must not be pruned at the end of the year, or you remove most or all of next year's flowers. Leave the bush alone, wait till signs of growth begin in Spring, usually late March or April, then just snip off any dead bits and dead flowerheads.
