It's a bit late, but I'd do it - these shrubs are pretty hardy, and so long as we don't start having winter in October, it'll be fine. Next year, though, try to do it by mid June.

Better not overdo it, its a bit late, just take off what you absolutely need to now and do the crew cut next spring, once the weather's warmed up again.
