12" and 14" wire baskets; how many plants can fit in to them?

Answers

it depends on the plants realy anything from one to maybe 6-8 at a realy remote guess .

think of root space and growth

I usually put 2 trailing bedding plants to grow through the side about half way up and and 4-6 upright bedding plants in the top depending on the choice of plant. I have 14 and 16 inch baskets. When planting something like a Fuschia I might just put that in on its own. I water every day and feed every 2 weeks and dead head most evenings.

12" basket should take, say, 2 surfinia trailing petunias, one upright fuchsia and some trailing lobelia, 14" 3 surfinia plus the other stuff.

I use 4-5 plants in my 14" baskets and then poke a few small lobelia in the gaps around the edges. As long as you feed them regularly (I use Miracle Gro about once a fortnight) they should flourish. I personally think baskets look best when they're overcrowded.

So do I Dioritt

I find 12" baskets rarely work as they are too small. They dry out far too fast when hot, and lack proper root space.

I love foliage too so usually put a few kidney weed and ivy in mine along with the flowering stuff. But that's what I love about baskets - you can do just about anything you like with them :)

Oh wow! That sounds really cool. Unfortunately I garden at my Mum's bungalow and have to keep to more conventional styles. She doesn't mind the odd 'oddity' but too much and she'd be worrying about what the neighbours might think. Lol.
