You could plant it straight into a pot with compost and hope it grows.

A better way is to stick four cocktail sticks in the side of the pit and use the sticks to support the pit on the rim of a glass or bowl. Make sure the pit is pointy side up and put enough water in the glass so that about half of the pit is submerged.

When a shoot and roots appear plant it in compost leaving half the pit exposed above the soil.
